Biography / Životopis

Gustáv Beláček (1969), a graduate of the Bratislava Conservatory and the Academy of Performing Arts (Eva Blahová). He worked under the leadership of Ileana Cotrubas, Carlo Bergonzi, Sergej Kopčák and Peter Mikuláš at masterclasses. He won various competitions (1993 – overall winner of the Dvořák Competition, 1993 – Opernwelt magazine Prize at Belvedere Competition, 1994 – 3rd prize at the International Singing Competition in Siena – Rocca delle Macie and the 1st prize at the M. Schneider-Trnavský International Singing Competition, 1995 – semi-finalist at the Pavarotti Competition). In1992 he made his debut as Leporello at the Prague Chamber Opera. Since then he has successfully performed in numerous opera houses at home, in Europe, America and Japan: Grand Théâtre / Geneve (The Bartered Bride), Théâtre de la Monnaie / Brussels and Théâtre du Rhin / Strassbourg (Mozart: Zaida), Opera Nagoya (Don Giovanni), Prague National Theatre (Aida), Prague State Opera (Lucia di Lammermoor, Rusalka), Brno National Theatre (Don Giovanni), Belo Horizonte (Don Giovanni), Vienna Chamber Opera (Gluck: Le Calender), Copenhagen Royal Opera (Rusalka), Teatro Massimo Palermo (Barbe-bleue, Ibert: Persée et Androméde), The Canadian Opera Society / Toronto (Boris Godunov, Rossini: Il viaggio a Reims, An Italian in Algiers) etc. At the Opera of the Slovak National Theatre he has interpreted the roles of Osmin, Swalow, Thibaut, Raimondo, Alidor and performed at the Berkshire Opera Festival in the USA (Don Giovanni). Gustáv Beláček is known for his versatility musically and repertoire-wise – he devotes himself intensively to concert repertoire and has gained international success in this field. He has worked with eminent orchestras (The Czech Philharmonic, London Philharmonic, San Francisco Symphony...) and conductors (J. Bělohlávek, M. Jansons, K. Masur, L. Pešek...) and has performed at renowned festivals (BBC Proms, Berkshire Opera Festival...). His recording for Delos Label (Dvořák: Requiem) received a Grammy in 2001.

Gustáv Beláček (1969), absolvent bratislavského Konzervatória a Vysokej školy múzických umení (Eva Blahová). Na interpretačných kurzoch pracoval pod vedením Ileany Cotrubas, Carla Bergonziho, Sergeja Kopčáka a Petra Mikuláša. Je laureátom viacerých súťaží (1993 – absolútny víťaz Dvořákovej súťaže, 1993 – Cena časopisu Opernwelt na súťaži Belvedere, 1994 – 3. cena na Medzinárodnej opernej súťaži v Siene – Rocca delle Macie a 1. cena na Medzinárodnej speváckej súťaži M. Schneidera-Trnavského, 1995 – semifinalista Pavorottiho súťaže). R. 1992 debutoval ako Leporello v Komornej opere v Prahe. Odvtedy sa s veľkým úspechom predstavil v mnohých operných domoch na európskom a americkom kontinente i v Japonsku: Grand Théâtre / Ženeva (Predaná nevesta), Théâtre de la Monnaie / Brusel a Théâtre du Rhin / Štrasburg (Mozart: Zaida), Opera Nagoya (Don Giovanni), Národné divadlo Praha (Aida), Štátna opera Praha (Lucia di Lammermoor, Rusalka), Národné divadlo Brno (Don Giovanni), Belo Horizonte (Don Giovanni), Komorná opera Viedeň (Gluck: Le Calender), Kráľovská opera Kodaň (Rusalka), Teatro Massimo Palermo (Modrofúz, Ibert: Persée et Androméde), Kanadská operná spoločnosť / Toronto (Boris Godunov, Rossini: Cesta do Remeša, Talianka v Alžíri)... V Opere SND stvárnil Osmina, Swalowa, Thibauta, Raimonda, Alidora... Predstavil sa na Berkshirskom opernom festivale v USA (Don Giovanni) Pre Gustáva Beláčka je typická repertoárová i hudobnícka všestrannosť – intenzívne sa venuje aj koncertnému repertoáru a na tomto poli zaznamenáva medzinárodné úspechy. Spolupracoval s významnými orchestrami (Česká filharmónia, London Philharmonic, San Francisco Symphony...) a dirigentmi (J. Bělohlávek, M. Jansons, K. Masur, L. Pešek...) a vystúpil na renomovaných festivaloch (BBC Proms, Berkshire Opera Festival...). Jeho nahrávka pre Delos Label (Dvořák: Rekviem) získala r. 2001 Grammy.
